far eastHere is a good example of fine modern furniture named by its makers the “Far East” group. The simple design was inspired by the ageless beauty of actual basic forms and details of early Chinese or Far East, furniture. Museum directors and modern architects were consulted so that this furniture should be not only suitable for contemporary living but timeless in character. Other fine examples will be shown throughout the book.

This Far East bedroom group is in the light almond finish so attractive for modern setting. The bed has twin swing away mattress and box spring units, and the headboard can be ordered in any fabric desired to match the spread. RequirementsWhen a bedroom is to be used by two people, the comfort of the two people should be the first consideration and, then, the so called decorating. There must be the necessary furniture, color, and light which will suit both. A man as well as a woman should have something to say about a room he will share. Be sure the color is one a man likes. Be sure there is an adequate reading light, a night table to share; o better, a table and light by each bed. Be sure a man as well a woman has an adequate chest or bureau and if possible that there is a closet for each.

Two small closets are better than one large one. If a room has only one closet, see if a pair of closets could be built in one on each side of a window. One could be fitted with drawers, thereby eliminating the need for an extra chest and utilizing every bit of space. BedroomThe chest of drawers used by a man, being a high piece and a high piece is needed in every room may balance a door and is best placed on a different wall from that on which the bureau is placed. Unless there is a built in wardrobe these chest are a good choice, as men like them because of the cabinet section with drawers for shirts. It is well to have a free standing mirror on the chest so that a man can adjust his tie without going to his bathroom mirror.

An attractive room furnished with mahogany pieces in the colonial spirit, having gay wallpaper above dado. Especially comfortable is the easy chair in front of the window with a table and lamp within easy reach. The hanging bookcase gives a pleasant upright and is in character.
